Mud, Mischief and Masterpieces:  Central CT State University Drop-In Child Care Center’s New Backyard Bistro

Tiny chefs in training are busy measuring, mixing, and creating gourmet backyard masterpieces at ABC Daycare in New Britain, CT.  Funded by a brand-new grant, the daycare turned to Premier Park & Play again to extend their outdoor play area and take interactive learning to a whole new, mouth-watering level.  The space has been transformed into a sensory-rich culinary academy where little hands cook up big dreams with kitchen-themed playground equipment.

The New Backyard Bistro Components by Nature of Early Play

• Mud Kitchen:  The ultimate sensory centerpiece where children scoop, pour, and mix natural ingredients. This heavy-duty station encourages collaborative role-play, refines fine motor skills, and lets kids explore textures while whipping up messy, magical recipes.
• Mud Refrigerator:  A playful, realistic appliance that teaches organization and early classification skills. Made of durable, weather-resistant shelving, it gives young chefs a dedicated spot to “chill” their sand, water and mud ingredients and store their freshly harvested play produce.
• Mud Kitchen Pizza Oven:  Styled like an authentic wood-fired oven, this creative feature inspires endless storytelling. Children learn about sequencing and patience as they slide their mud-crust pizzas inside, using imaginative play to develop early math and social skills.
• Outdoor Storage Unit:  A spacious, heavy-duty cabinet strategically placed to keep the playground tidy. Designed with sturdy, child-safe latches, it teaches little learners the responsibility of packing away their tools after a busy day in the kitchen, ensuring everything stays protected from the elements.
